Earth Under Pressure

It's early November. In New Zealand, this means we are well on the way to warm days and balmy nights. Summer weather is hottest in the first 2 weeks of February, traditionally.  So why am I sitting here in my winter robe with my bare feet freezing ?? (I should have grabbed those slippers).  Why have the vineyards in Marlborough been fighting off -4 degree Celcius frosts with helicopters last week?  Why did it snow in Australia just a few weeks ago ??  These are all very peculiar events for this part of the world. It's never so cold like this in early November  :-/    Something is definitely up.
