Hamilton NZ Earth Tremor 10 August 2012... of ALL Places !!

Last night 9pm NZ time (ie: Friday 10th August 2012 09:00 UTC ) there was a small earth tremor in Hamilton, NZ.

I was about to leave work when the plastic on one of the printers rattled for around 2 seconds.  I thought, "No...  can't be... "   Hamilton is NOT in a seismic zone.

Then I felt a small 'wave' under foot.

Still thinking...  "No... "  I turned to my right where my eyes fell on a set of keys hang suspended around 3cm (1.5") away from the wall.  The keys were swaying in a range of motion around 2cm (1") wide.

I thought, "you've got to be joking... "

I think last night, that Hamilton NZ had a small earthquake.  There is no data for this event on USGS or GeoNet NZ.   I know it happened though...  3 tangible signs... sound, feeling (motion), sight.

Let's stay calm and prepared.  If you haven't done it all ready, please get yourself some 10 litre containers of water (Pure Dew is good) and sort out some tarpaulins for future rain water collection.  btw. I'd love to hear from you if you felt anything too on Friday night at 9pm.

Peace...  Bron.
