Code of Hammurabi on "Theft"


Should we hang bankers?


According to the Code of Hammurabi a system of laws some 3700 years old,  any Mesopotamian who violated the terms of a financial contract – including the Futures Contracts that were commonly used in Commodities Trading in Babylon – “shall be put to death as a thief".

Pretty strong words. But as the globe hurdles to a financial collapse of biblical proportions caused by bankers and their criminal behaviour in all sections of society here are some of the things their previous victims came up with and while it didn’t particularly work as a deterrent it probably did keep the number of psychopaths down...
