In celebration of the coming of Spring, and to commemorate Islam Awareness Week, the Waikato Interfaith Council would like to invite you to come and join us on the first day of Spring to do our bit for the environment. This event supports the Waikato Muslim Association in celebrating Islam Awareness Week, and its theme this year: "the environment: our rights and responsibilities". We've invited ethnic and faith community leaders in the Waikato to get their communities on board and come and join us for an hour or two, plant some trees and join us for a BBQ (sponsored by the Waikato Muslim Association) afterwards. We've got members from a wide variety of the Waikato's various ethnic and faith/belief communities to come and join us for some real down to earth fun.
So come and support multicultural and interfaith activities in the Waikato, and the the Hamilton City Council's Waiwhakareke Reserve with its long-term vision of wetland restoration. For more information on Waiwhakareke and its award-winning natural heritage park, please visit <
www.waiwhakareke.co.nz> for an overview of the project. For more information on this event, please visit the Waikato Interfaith Council's website at <
http://wifco.wikispaces.com>, and download a pdf map of the location so you can find us on the day.
Please meet at 2pm sharp in the car park across from the main entrance to the Hamilton Zoo. Follow the signs that say "Community Event" to point you in the right direction. We'll be having an orientation and safety briefing beginning at 2pm at the far end of the car park. From there we'll walk down to the planting site and get started. Plan on spending close to an hour planting, followed by a BBQ back at the car park.
If you don't have a spade, we'll have a few extras on hand, so don't let that deter you from joining us!
What to bring: gumboots, a spade for planting, and a sun hat!
RSVP REQUESTED: If you plan to attend, please email <
wifcoevents@gmail.com> so we have a good idea of how many saplings we'll need.
This event is kid friendly!
