Aotearoa Is Not For Sale!

More than 80% of New Zealanders are opposed to asset sales. However our National-led Government claims to have a mandate from the people to sell out NZ. We must stand up and show that the Government doesn't have our support.
Kiwis don't want their public assets & services, resources or farm land sold to foreign investors & private companies. And Kiwi's certainly don't like that our Government is opening up large tracts of land for oil drilling, fracking & mining including in conservation areas, National Parks as well as private land.  It is not in our interest to put the country's future in the hands of a few large companies whose primary incentive is to make profits for themselves.

The Hamilton leg of the Hikoi will take place on Sunday 29 April at 10am from the BP at the North end of Victoria Street beside the 'farming family' statue arriving at Garden Place between 10:30 and 11am.

                           Auckland march 28 April 2012

29 April 2012:
Today I joined the hikoi (long haul protest) culminating with an action in Wellington on Friday 4 May 2012. I am taking my car to Karipiro this afternoon and continuing on with the convoy to Rotorua tonight.
Please vision with us that this National-led Government will overturn their current agenda:

1) for fracking to take place over much of the Canturbury Plains (permits granted for Canterbury 1 December 2011) along with East Cape and Taranaki where mining/ fracking is currently being carried out.
2) for a retraction of the the proposed sale of the 12 Crafar Farms to Chinese investors, ie: the sale of NZ to overseas corporate interests
3) the proposal to sell off our infrastructure assests via 49% float on the Share Market - sales of NZ's Energy infrastructure  including NZ dams, power stations, cable networks, etc.

THESE THINGS CAN NOT HAPPEN !!
Vision with me that these things DO NOT happen and that there are only barriers to these thing happening at every step along the way for this government...
"Aotearoa is NOT For Sale !! "

... sending a clear message to the government !!

New Zealand Is for Sale - Hikoi

Published on Apr 29, 2012 by
A hikoi opposing the Government's planned partial sale of the country's assets is scheduled to take place in Hamilton this morning.

The Aotearoa Is Not For Sale hikoi drew an estimated 3000 people as it passed through Auckland yesterday on its two-week journey from Cape Reinga to Wellington.

Protesters are opposed to the planned sale of up to 49 per cent shares in the state owned energy companies: Mighty River, Genesis Power, Meridian Energy and Solid Energy.

A statement from organisers said today's hikoi would also highlight plans to mine sand on the West Coast.

"Several large mining companies are looking to remove massive volumes of sand from 2500 square kilometres of the west coast seabed, extending from Whanganui to the Kaipara Harbour," it said.

The hikoi will move to Rotorua tonight for a march to the National Party office tomorrow morning before heading to Taupo.

A slide show of images I took from the protest march up Queen St, Auckland on Saturday April 28. This is just the beginning...

Join us in Wellington on Friday May 4 at Te Papa at 10am
It's time to Rise Up Aotearoa and make a stand against the government's planned asset sales.

Bron: The guy holding up the big green banner at the end of this vid. is my travelling companion...  That's Tui...  representing for Taranaki  :D  The saying on his banner goes:  'My strength comes not from me alone... "  He completed the second part of the saying by creating another excellent banner before we hit Wellington:  "... It comes from the strength of many."
